To kick off the year, the RA team participated in 2 weeks of training before the students joined us in February! Our training consisted of a trip to a high ropes course at The Groynes, an overnight stay (which was a surprise at a top secret location), first aid training, fire safety, privacy and psychological first aid training. We also had a whole lot of fun and time to get to know each other and bond as a team. Following on from this, our students arrived and we kicked the year off with a bang. Bish put on many events in the week leading up to uni starting! The Bish Mish, a presentation from Uni Smart and an RA organised quiz night were highlights of the week along with the Orientation Week events hosted by the UCSA!
My RA portfolio for the year was Wellbeing and my personal standout moment this year was the ‘2020 Big Give’ arranged by the Student Volunteer Army. 70 Students from Bish and I worked together to rebuild the Richmond Community gardens, restore wetlands along the Avon and construct a bike park for students from Banks Avenue school. I was so proud of our students and their efforts despite the rain. It was a great event!
Despite the unprecedented times that have happened this year, we’ve had some great events like Casino night, quiz nights, themed dinners, the Bish Ball and floor outings. I’m looking forward to finishing this year on a high!
