Your room at Bishop
Bishop Julius Hall is like being “at home”! away from home.We are friendly, we study, our rooms and facilities are great.
You will make life-long friends here.
You won’t get lost in the crowd
We have Welfare Staff who live in each building and take individual care of each student there. These are trained senior students, who will welcome you when you arrive, show you around, help you settle in and be there for you during the year. You’ll get to know and like the Welfare Staff.
Your room
Your room is a single study bedroom fully furnished and heated. Each room has a telephone with voice mail, and a terminal for a computer.
There are three residential houses. These houses are grouped around the quadrangle with the administration block on the fourth side.
Most floors have a microwave, tea and coffee making facilities, a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board.
Meals
All meals are provided for you at the Hall. That is breakfast, lunch and the evening meal.
This includes late meals and packed lunches for those students attending late lectures and tutorials.
We also cater for a limited vegetarian option.
Hall Life
We are a diverse community of people from around New Zealand as well as other countries. Although the Hall is a “parent free zone” it provides a structured environment for you to obtain the best academic results and to make life long friends.
The vibrant cultural, social, and sporting life complements the academic and gives you a wonderful experience of living as an individual in the middle of a caring group of people.
Facilities
A large study centre provides the focus for academic life: study, tutorials and recreation.
There is a music room and computer room with computers linked to the University. The Christchurch Press is available each day to members.
In the recreation room there is a pool table and table tennis.
Within the Hall there is a TV room with a video player and Sky Television. Students also have access to a large screen TV with a Video and DVD player in the study centre.
In the evenings the front foyer of the Hall becomes a homely common area.
Car parking and two secure cycle sheds are available.
